Maya Zhang
A+GALLERY Helsinki, Coates Battle & Tyree, Au Cœur de Laflamme, Sandberg Volvo Cars. Lynnwood, Lucky Furniture (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd.
Maya Zhang’s series “Fragments of Life” (88 works, 2020–2026) originates from unguarded, spontaneous moments in everyday life, filtered through the mobile phone—the most immediate and intimate digital medium of our time. These images present the artist’s lived experiences as she moves across different countries and cities. Through subtle strategies, Maya preserves the snapshot-like ephemerality in her compositions, capturing edges and ruptures that are both disordered and deliberately incompatible. As Jean-Paul Sartre proposed, the meaning of human existence is not predetermined but created by the reassembly of countless fragmented shards of life; Maya’s “Fragments of Life” is her visual response.
Maya holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), where she conducted in-depth research into traditional aesthetics and contemporary art practices. Maya Zhang’s art is anchored in her direct perceptions and emotional responses to the world, refracted through her gentle yet acute gaze.
