Marie Bergstedt

Marie Bergstedt grew from a small agricultural community. Supportive teachers and a scholarship enabled college, but not her greatest interest, art. Studying art and practicing design on the side during employed jobs, she launched as a full-time artist in 2006. With years of experience and challenges she was ready to grapple with what life had taught. All humans touch textiles, so fiber methods seemed a natural way to relate to a universe of people. Combining skills developed as a child with techniques learned in art classes, she now addresses cultural concerns, primarily in portraits of people who are living the issue. Her home dining room, usually spread with buttons, threads, and fabric provides a constant and easily-accessed studio, quickly cleared for occasional food feasting.
