Areez Katki

Areez Katki (he/they) is an artist & writer whose practice dwells around conceptual & material-based intersections which survey the phenomenology of postcolonial identities. Navigating across disciplines & pedagogies, this practice looks toward generating deeper understandings of affective material, posing questions around embodiments subjected to rupture. While investigative acts run through Katki’s nearly decade-long art practice, his writing contextualises the use of material languages with storied narratives & biomythography. Both practices survey the nature of (our) relationships with sites & embodiments. Katki’s work is held in public & private collections internationally. He was recently appointed the Aotearoa visual artist in residence at Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin in 2024–2025.
