WeAreHumanity
Live Performance by Lilli Müller
As part of her participation in Accepted Without Review, the experimental digital residency by DOM Art Residence presented within Personal Structures at Palazzo Bembo, artist Lilli Müller will perform WeAreHumanity in the Marinaressa Gardens, in Venice.
WeAreHumanity is a collaborative art project that invites the audience to become part of a powerful living sculpture. During the performance, the artist creates a sculpture in real time through body casting. Once the plaster has sufficiently hardened, audience members are invited to help lift and release the sculpture, which is then set aside to dry. The performance is based on participation, trust, and collective action. Each sculpture is created with the involvement of volunteers and becomes part of a larger body of work developed by the artist over time. Together, these individual casts form the Human Raft – a growing sculptural installation that serves as a symbol of peace and surrender, struggle and courage, suffering and hope. It reflects the experiences of people undertaking dangerous journeys in search of a better life, while also speaking to humanity’s shared vulnerability, resilience, and interconnectedness.
The performance is part of Lilli Müller’s residency project for Accepted Without Review, a six-month experimental digital residency by DOM Art Residence, where artists open their studios and creative processes to the public through continuous online broadcasts while developing new work for Venice. The sculptures created through the project will eventually become part of the evolving installation presented within DOM Art Residence’s exhibition space at Palazzo Bembo.
