Scenes of Transformation and Resistance: Performing in Artistic Research
This engaging series of events will emphasize performance as a research method as well as the performative aspects of artistic research as practice-led modes of producing knowledge through the arts
The Summer School programme Scenes of Transformation and Resistance: Performing Artistic Research will critically engage with multiple forms of performative action and modes of sensibility and imagination within artistic research. By embracing resistance as a creative and aesthetic practice, one can delve into the interconnectedness of knowledge and memory, blurring the boundaries separating art, research, and activism. With a focus on performing artistic research, the Summer School program encloses scenes that serve as stages for examining societal norms, power dynamics, and systems of oppression, while also resisting dominant narratives. As a form of aesthetic resistance, transformation can be seen as a continual process of construction and deconstruction of signs and materials alike. This approach to performing in artistic research leads to scenes of transformation and resistance that incorporate experimental, participatory practices, this time taking place on a stage in a celebrated city like Venice.
By exploring the field of artistic research as a constantly transforming space for participatory and experimental artistic practices, the programme attempts to resist standardised and (hetero-)normative forms of knowledge production through a plurality of intersectional approaches. By featuring collaborative, experimental, and autoethnographic practices in different performative formats, the program will reflect a broad diversity of methods of artistic research in a specific site setting.
