A beautiful and enlightening third workshop that navigates through the complexities of science and emotions stemming from cancer by means of art and sounds
Cancer, specifically when affecting children, evokes compassionate emotions, fear, and helplessness. On the other side, modern biomedical science has achieved enormous progress towards a better understanding of the disease and improved cure of patients. Although potentially providing hope to patients and their relatives, this aspect of the cancer problem is too complex to be easily understood. Therefore, there is a big gap between the emotional and the rational perception of the disease. Artistic practices may not only help to express emotions associated with cancer, but also provide orientation to affected individuals by explaining complex scientific contents in a sensorily tangible form. According to the Art4Science concept, this workshop shall stimulate the generation of small pieces of art as roadmaps that may serve to navigate through complex scientific content using a pediatric bone cancer as an example.
