Love and Mercy, Blue

A Talk Exploring Blue: Art History, Spirituality, and Encounter

Join renowned art historian Cynthia Colburn for an engaging exploration of the colour blue through the lens of art history, followed by a Q&A with the artists and curators of Love and Mercy, Blue at Palazzo Bembo.

The exhibition explores the spiritual and emotional resonance of blue as both an aesthetic force and a contemplative invitation. Its title speaks not only to a chromatic presence but also to a posture of mercy, tenderness, and enduring love that art uniquely embodies and transmits. Blue becomes a site of encounter, between inner and outer worlds, maker and viewer, teacher and student.

We invite you to the exhibition reception and Q&A at Palazzo Bembo featuring Pepperdine faculty and art historian Cynthia Colburn, exhibiting artists Gretchen Batcheller, Kate Parsons, Kira Shewfelt, Ty Pownall, and Yvette Gellis, along with student artists Adrineh Sahakian, Davyny Olivas, Mason Turner, Mirian Kim, and Naomi Popple.
