Join us for an impactful day of screenings and performances that explore critical themes of identity, displacement, and the fight for democracy.

Through short films and live performances, we’ll delve into the personal stories of those facing political and humanitarian crises in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. From the challenges of forced displacement and the lack of legal identity to the struggle for democratic freedom, this event invites reflection on the power of art to confront and navigate complex social issues.

11:10 Screaming 1 | Soy Dominicano, 2023 – Catalunya Films – 12′
This 12-minute film captures the stories of people in the Dominican Republic affected by forced displacement, the lack of international protection, and the absence of legal identity or nationality. Over six days, the team recorded portraits and testimonies of eight individuals from a civil society organization, highlighting their strength and experiences. Soy Dominicano is part of the special curatorial project Metáforas de la Emergencia: Hispaniola Nuevas Narrativas, which explores themes of human mobility and border dynamics in the Caribbean. This project has been developed for the 20 year anniversary of Miami New Media Festival.

Showcasing the FOW video Journey of Labels, originally presented at Palazzo Bembo as part of the ECC Personal Structures exhibition.

11:42 Screening 3 | Yo Soy María Corina Screening – Andreina Fuentes Angarita video performance – 1′
These performance focus on the Venezuelan political humanitarian called “ La Dama de Hierro” and the fact that a woman was rejected to register as a candidate to run for Venezuela Presidency.

11:44 Screening & Performance 4 | Democracia – 2′
Screening Andreina Fuentes Angarita video performance Democracia and life performance simustaneasly. With the intervention of Marina Abramovic’s performance instructions looking at colors representing Venezuela’s flag. These performance focus on the return of the democracy as a way to confront the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, examining its political, economic, and social instability. The purpose is to create a space for reflection on democracy and citizen participation.
