Contemporary Latin American Surrealism: Esteban Machado Diaz

Be inspired by Latin American Surrealism with this talk held by Esteban Machado Diaz

Surrealism in Latin America goes beyond history and proposes an alternate realm, distinct from European Surrealism, by expressing the realities of Latin America through its symbols and historical, economic, and social dimensions. Cuban painter Esteban Machado Díaz not only references his Cuban origins, such as the devouring lushness of the Cuban forest, but he also incorporates South American elements such as Kahlo’s image, the Monarch butterfly, and a cosmogonical fountain of Latin American primal origins. All this is achieved through a mastery of pictorial approach and a contrasting dislocation of images.
