Sculptor Sonal Ambani began her creative journey in the 90s, sculpting across various mediums and styles. Her work bridges the gap between nature and urbanisation, seeking to create a delicate bond between these two diverse ecosystems.
During two Venice Art Biennales, the European Cultural Centre showcased her sculptures Slings and Arrows of Outrageous Fortune in 2024, and Riderless World in 2022. Her sculpture series We Dream Under The Same Sky was shown by the Leila Heller Gallery at the DIFC Sculpture Park and at the gallery in Dubai. Slings & Arrows Of Outrageous Fortune

Slings & Arrows of Outrageous Fortune poignantly reflects the persistent gender pay gap, a deeply entrenched issue within the socio-economic fabric of societies worldwide. This disparity is more than a numerical imbalance; it symbolizes the broader undervaluation of women’s labour and worth. A stainless steel bull adorned with major world currencies is at the heart of the installation. The bull, charging towards a circular target, epitomizes the patriarchal structures that sustain and valorize male dominance. Embedded in the bull are red arrows, each representing the incremental yet significant strides made in addressing the gender pay gap.
These arrows signify the relentless efforts of those who challenge entrenched biases, advocate for systemic change, and strive for an equitable future. The circular target towards which the bull charges symbolizes the collective aim of achieving gender equality. This circle represents not just an endpoint but an ongoing journey—a reminder that the fight for gender equality requires sustained, collective effort and dedication. It highlights the aspiration to reach a stage where gender no longer dictates economic value or opportunity. This installation is more than a representation of the struggle; it is a call to action. It underscores that despite the challenges ahead, a unified effort to overcome these barriers can lead to a more inclusive world. Celebrating Nobel Laureate Claudia Goldin’s groundbreaking work, the sculpture stands as a testament to the enduring pursuit of gender equality.
